Figure
8. Aft to Fore Hull view. At a point approximately 18 inches
forward of the tail, Gromzer’s hull transitions from flat to double
concave. Concave maxes at 1/8” deep in the vicinity of the forward
rail fins and gradually blends back to flat for the last 3 inches of
tail section. Note also that the tail section lobe is crisp and sharp
with no tuck for maximum release. This approach to tail the section
lobe is consistent with modern short board methodology. Interestingly,
Master Griffin would likely frown upon such an approach to tail section
lobe design. With all due respect to Master Griffin, it is appropriate
to consider, of course, that he shapes and designs boards on the North
Shore of Oahu, where control features likely take precedence over speed
generation and release features. The chupas haven't made it to
Oahu yet.
